The
House

For lovers of peace and nature.

Located between Brive and Périgueux, in a privileged environment, on the edge of a small wood and at the end of a local road, the Ferme d'Araucanie gîte opens its doors to you. This farmhouse dating from the 18th century has been entirely restored: sand and lime coatings, stone floors, flat recovery tiles for the roof, repair of the old frame attic. These works meet the discreet comfort of an air-conditioned loft space and a heated salt pool.

  • The interior: On the ground floor, a 40 m2 room which consists of a living room with inglenook fireplace, a dining room and an open kitchen equipped with high-end household appliances. Two bedrooms are located on either side of the living room. Upstairs is an air-conditioned loft space with 2 bedrooms, a living room and a bathroom.
  • The exteriors: A 10 x 5 meter heated salt water swimming pool, entirely private, is located at the back of the house as well as the astonishing “borie” or dry stone cabin, a real chef -work of rural architecture of Périgord. A garden of aromatic and condiment plants as well as a vegetable garden await you to bring joy to your meals and other barbecues.

The
Library

There is nothing ordinary about the Araucania Farm Library. Don't expect to find well-organized books on a bookshelf, cabinet, or dedicated room. No ! The Araucanie Farm library is more generous: it is everywhere. Whether in the kitchen, the living room, the bedrooms, on a bedside or placed in the corner of the fireplace, you will encounter these works at the bend of a glance, by opening a cupboard, by drawing a curtain, by taking full advantage of the place .
And all these books have one thing in common: they talk about nature and life in the countryside, their authors are local or elsewhere but they all have the earth at heart... and from time to time a dissimilar book slips through which is there simply for the beautiful story it tells.

You will find novels, comic strips, old invoices from merchants from the village of Tourtoirac, a wheelwright's account book, old almanacs, some philosophy books >, children's books, books of regional cooking recipes and natural healing remedies, books on daily life in the countryside, tales and legends . Some books have become impossible to find...

The museum

Passionate by peasant life, its harshness and ingenuity, the owner of the place has created a small museum presenting antique objects which relate to the countryside and peasant life.

A collection of earthenware, everyday objects and other tableware fill period furniture. A large set table allows you to recreate a scene of yesteryear’s life on the farm. In the adjoining barn, tools, machines, clogs, baskets invite you to imagine the work in the fields of yesteryear. You will also find a directory where all these finds are accompanied by details on their origin and their history.
